Eligibility
In order to submit a composition, you must be a member of WFMC. Please read the following carefully so you understand what membership works best for you.
The Wyoming Federation of Music Clubs is located in the Western Region of the National Federation of Music Clubs.
WFMC membership is open to those who reside in Wyoming and Colorado.
There are various options for students to become eligible and enter the composition contest:
1. If you are a teacher who currently holds both a WFMC Senior and Junior Club membership, then your students must complete the application below, submit a composition, and pay the composition entry fee.
2. If you are a teacher who is not currently a member and lives in Colorado or Wyoming, then we invite you to sign up for WFMC Senior Club and Junior club memberships. Each of your student composers must complete the application below, submit a composition, and pay the composition entry fee.
3. If you are a student whose teacher is not a member of the WFMC at this time, then you may join as an Individual Student member. Then you must complete the application below, submit a composition and pay the composition entry fee.
Choose this membership IF your teacher is NOT a member of WFMC.

A student’s age as of March 1, 2024 determines the level or classification for the entrance.
Classification I Ages 9 and under

2025 Composition Adjudicator
Thomas Herlin
Thomas Herlin is a Denver area educator and musician. He studied music composition, theory, and performance at Brigham Young University (B.A., 1992; M.Mus., 1994) and the University of Illinois (D.M.A., 2000). Dr. Herlin has taught a wide range of classes — including music theory, composition, studio string bass, instrumental and vocal music, music history, and English language arts — to students of all ages ― from elementary to postsecondary. Currently, he teaches at Brady Exploration High School in Lakewood, Colorado, and gigs regularly on the string bass. He is Principal Bassist for the Lakewood Symphony Orchestra. He also conducts two church choirs.
